Stay Ahead in Competition 2020 - How to do SEO successfully in 2020
You will be surprised to know that the basic SEO advice has not changed much over these years. Years come and go. New years' resolutions come and go.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the method of designing material to be found through the organic search results of a search engine.
SEO advice worth following remains the same:
1. Create Something worth Linking to
Mahatma Gandhi said 'be the change you want to achieve'. In SEO, that advice would certainly translate to 'become the website you want a link from'.
Have content that impresses people. Content that helps people.
2. Solve Genuine Problems of Users
When your content helps solve genuine problems of users / customers, you are in a better position to get natural links from people who may been looking for solutions.
That is why I always advice people coming for SEO advice to first find out all the questions people have in their niche and then go ahead and create content in appropriate formats - blog posts, videos, etc.
3. Find People who believe the same as you do (but don't Spam!)
Find people (social media, websites, offline sources) who believe in the same things as you as far as your big idea is concerned. Help them out with useful information. Build relationships with people behind the websites, not websites.
In 2020, more people will discover that the best link building focuses on people rather than links.
My advice to website owners is to focus on who is going to give them the link and who is actually going to see that link and also if the link giving website is in your domain and serves people who are interested in your domain.
We all know Google places a big premium on relevancy - relevant link from a relevant page / website matters most, my friends.
Moreover, only relevant links have a chance of bringing in more business.
4. Stay Away from SEO Gurus
So-called gurus like Brian Dean preach to create great content and then spam the world out of webmasters! Then there are the Neil Patels who rehash the existing SEO advice using heavily tested headlines.
The main problem with the SEO gurus is they push a 'new' SEO tactic only when they have benefited from it and are giving up on it as more people start copying their 'new' tactics, which ends up cluttering our email inboxes with banal link requests to banal, unoriginal websites, and thus the tactics end up being useless.
Just this week, I got 12 link requests. You can guess where all these requests ended up!
Many of these SEO gurus have their own PBNs (Private Blog Networks) and networks of well established 'friend' websites which they use to promote certain keywords and show to the world how 'successful' they and their tactics are.
So, in 2020, let's all have a goal of having highly useful websites and then finding people who believe in how useful you are.
Doesn't it all sound basic marketing? Peter Drucker famously said, 'The purpose of a business is to find a customer.'
In today's SEO language, this becomes: 'The purpose of link building is to find people who value what you are doing.'
This is the essence of good SEO.
Have a profitable 2020, you all!
